Growing up, we always went camping on Memorial Day. Since I got married, though, it has been harder to go. Ya know, kids. It just takes so much energy, haha. But I have so many fond memories of camping as a little kid, so I decided we needed to do that for our kids, too. So we packed up and did some Memorial Day camping this last weekend. And guess what?! We survived!
We went to Stoddard Creek. It’s just past Dubois and the Spencer Opal Mines. We went fishing, four wheeling, hiking, sat around the fire, and spent time with family. When we first got there, we took five pennies down the the railroad track and left them there for the train to smash. Henry thought it was the coolest thing when he found them the next morning! They are now his special treasures.
We slept in a tent for the first night, and we all froze out butts off. Poor little Henry was shivering so hard in the middle of the night. So he slept with us for the rest of the night. It was Robbie, me, Henry, my big belly, and a body pillow on a full sized blow up mattress. After that, we decided we needed to sleep in the trailer if we were going to make it another night, haha. My parents were gracious enough to invite all of us in to enjoy their heater the next night. It was much better.
Camping with kiddos is hard, but worth it. My boys had the best time ever. Will was in absolute heaven running all over the place, and Henry loved playing Pokemon in the woods with his cousins. They were completely exhausted when we got home, and it might take a while for them to catch up on sleep, but we made some great memories. So grateful to have such a pretty place so close to home!
