My little boy Henry has been BEGGING to go fishing all week. So we finally took him Friday night. Fishing at Ryder Park is one of our favorite things to do as a family! When we got there Friday, it was lightly raining. We decided to tough it out and try and fish anyways. About five minuets after getting out lines out in the water, it started POURING rain. Like buckets, guys. Robbie ran our crying Henry back to the car and I tried to quickly gather up our things. I reeled in the pole and, to my surprise, there was a fish waiting for us on Henry’s line. Robbie had already taken the tackle box back to the car, and I couldn’t get the dang hook out without the pliers that were in them. So, sadly, I had to kill our little friend.
Henry was pretty sad we didn’t get to fish for long, so we went back Saturday night. I invited two of my brothers and their families, so it was a party. Between all of us, we caught two crawdads and ten fish. The kids were in heaven! It is SO much fun having a stocked pond right here in Idaho Falls. Fishing at Ryder Park is the best!
We can’t wait for the crawdads at Ryder Park to come out! I like catching crawdads even more than fish, because we can catch a whole bucket within like twenty minutes and the let them all go without killing any of them.
If you guys want to go crawdad fishing at Ryder Park, here are some tips. Use a weight and cast out on the North side of the first pond. Better yet, just let your line drop right at the mouth of the stream that feeds into the pond. That is where we catch all of ours. We have found that they like worms best! You can see the cute little crawdads, so you just drop your worm right by their claws and they snatch at your bait as soon as they see it.
My boys love both fishing and crawdad catching at Ryder Park! It’s one of the best activities in town if you ask me! We are so lucky to have cute a cute little pond so close to home.
