Newborn sessions are such a dream! Snuggles, cute little grunts, and beautiful brand new babies. Preparing for your newborn session can seem a little bit overwhelming right after having a baby, so let me help you! Here are some tips and tricks that will make sure your newborn session goes smoothly.
Tip 1: Choose a couple of swaddles and a cute outfit for the baby for pictures. The majority of pictures end up being with the swaddles, because brand new babies always seem happiest wrapped up.
Tip 2: Try and avoid yellow. Most sweet little babies have at least a little bit of jaundice, so it’s best to avoid the color yellow so we don’t bring out those yellow skin tones in our pictures.
Tip 3: Schedule your newborn sessions for about 5-10 days after baby is born. I know that births are unpredictable, so let me know when you are due and we will work it out! Normally, I just have moms message me after they have had their babies and we schedule something for the following week.
Tip 4: My favorite place to take pictures is in mom and dad’s room. That way, the whole family can cuddle up on the bed for pictures. If possible, have a light-colored bedspread or sheet on your bed. Light colors will add warmth and space to your images. It is also a good idea for mom and dad to be dressed in light colors.
That’s about it! If you want your baby to be asleep for pictures, we can be in touch the morning of your shoot and I can just head over after baby has eaten and is ready for a nap. I am a fan of both asleep and awake photos of precious little babies, so it’s really up to you! Sometimes our little babes don’t cooperate exactly the way we want them to, but I guarantee we will get perfect pictures of your newborn whether or not they are asleep or awake.
I can’t wait for our shoot! Please let me know if you have any other questions. See you and your beautiful new baby soon!
