The best part about being an Idaho Falls family photographer is I get to photograph families like this! This is the Johnston Family. Kim has been one of my best friends for 12 years now! Kim and I met through mutual friends. One day I heard it was her birthday, so I randomly took her a cantaloupe with a lit sparkler in it and gave it to her while playing her Happy Birthday on the accordion. I was so weird, haha. I told her I was going to a Love You Long Time concert and told her to come with. I was completely shocked to find out that Kim not only knew who Love You Long Time was, but seriously knew the lyrics to every single one of their songs. She was so entertaining at the concert. She was jumping around like crazy and singing along to every song. It was then that I knew she was going to be a very entertaining friend to keep around haha.
We played on the same basketball team in high school, went on family trips together, lived together at college, served missions at the same time, and got married the same year. It goes without saying that we have been by each others’ sides for a long time now. We FaceTime basically every day and love to get our little boys together to play.
Kim met Jake on their missions. They served together and started writing after Kim got home. When Kim brought Jake to my house for the first time, I invited him on a road trip with us to Denver. They weren’t even dating yet, so Kim was rather surprised when he said yes. She might have been a little mad at me then, but I’m pretty sure she would thank me now. It was on that trip that Jake realized him loved Kim. The rest was history! They had this precious little boy twelve days before my little boy was born. It has been so fun to have boys so close in age. I can’t wait to watch them grow up together! Maybe they will end up being best friends, too, just like their mommas.
