I love formal photos before the wedding! It gives couples a chance to have their first look in a private setting, and frees up more time on the wedding day for festivities. One thing that worries brides, however, is the possibility of getting their dress dirty before their big day. It’s a legitimate concern. Keeping your dress clean can be tricky. But don’t worry, I’m here to help! Below are a few tips that will help keep your dress looking fresh for your wedding day.
Tip 1: Don’t let your dress touch the ground unless it is time to take a picture. Keep it up in your arm, or get a bustle. I recommend just placing it over your arm as you walk from location to location.
Tip 2: Bring a white or cream sheet to stand on. We will lay the sheet on the ground, have you stand on it, and then tuck it under the edges of your dress so it can’t be seen. Because of the time of the year, I recently shot a formal session in a muddy location. We used this trick and her dress looked amazing at the end of all of our photos!
Tip 3: Consider spraying the bottom of your dress with a stain-resistant spray. Scotchgard Fabric Protector works great! However, if you spray too much, there is a possibility of discoloration on your dress. It would be worth it to take it to a dry cleaners and have them spray the bottom of it for you. Let the professionals handle it!
Tip 4: Make it a team effort! Have your fiancé keep an eye on your dress. Make sure it stays off the ground whenever possible.
Following these simple tips should keep your dress looking perfect for your big day! Don’t worry too much about your dress. Keeping your dress clean is my number one priority besides getting you beautiful formal photos during our session. Together, we will keep your dress looking spotless!
