Things don’t always go as planned, but this Shelley family session taught me that a change of plans can sometimes be a really awesome thing.
We started our session down at Snake River Landing. The colors were beautiful and everything was going really great. The dad was on his way to the session straight from work, so we started with the girls and mom and got some adorable photos. When the dad showed up at the session, he and his wife realized that his text autocorrected from saying “Bring my shirt and boots,” to “bring my short boots.” His wife didn’t know hat he meant, so she just brought his normal boots haha. So dad was at the pictures, but he didn’t have his shirt.
We were losing daylight, and I knew he wouldn’t have time to get home and back to Snake River Landing with enough light to finish our session. So I suggested that I follow them all back to their house in Shelley and we would take the rest of the pictures there. Luckily, they were chill with that, so that’s what we did!
These pictures ended up being ten times better than they would have been at Snake River Landing. Why? Because the pictures had a lot more meaning to the family. They were able to have their pictures taken on their property in front of their house. Now, when they see their pictures, they will remember this special stage in their lives and the beautiful place that they called home. They also got to have their family dog in the pictures, which wasn’t part of the original plan. The dad is really close with his dog, so I was really happy to be able to capture a few shots of just the two of them together.
Things ended up turning out more than ok. I was so happy things fell into place and we were able to get some beautiful family pictures for these guys! I am also happy that my clients are so willing to go with the flow, even if they don’t know the outcome of things. Sometimes it is hard to see a photographer’s vision, so it means so much to me when my clients put total trust in me and my decisions! Thank you so much Pew family, it was so much fun to work with you guys! You are an awesome family and I can’t wait to take pictures of you in the future! If I’m lucky, maybe it will be another Shelley family session!
